Variable neighborhood search for extremal vertices: The system AutoGraphiX-III

چکیده

More than fifteen years after the beginning of the development of AutoGraphiX (AGX), a third version of the software is made available. Since the program was rewritten from scratch, it was the opportunity to look forward and consider new avenues. From the user’s point of view, the interface is completely changed, which allows the display of multiple information which was not possible in the previous versions. However, one of the main improvements is that it is designed to help researchers in the field of complex networks. In these days when increasing research is applied to complex networks (such as social networks), the use of quantities related to vertices, indicating the centrality (the importance of an actor in the network measured as a topological indicator) naturally leads researchers toward the mathematical study of these quantities. This new paradigm implies a complete change in the optimization algorithm that now natively handles multiobjective problems involving vertex-related measures. Les Cahiers du GERAD G–2015–09 1

Variable Neighborhood Search for Extremal Graphs. 10. Comparison of Irregularity Indices for Chemical Trees

Chemical graphs, as other ones, are regular if all their vertices have the same degree. Otherwise, they are irregular, and it is of interest to measure their irregularity both for descriptive purposes and for QSAR/QSPR studies. Three indices have been proposed in the literature for that purpose: those of Collatz-Sinogowitz, of Albertson, and of Bell's variance of degrees. We study their propert...

Variable neighborhood search for extremal graphs. 16. Some conjectures related to the largest eigenvalue of a graph

We consider four conjectures related to the largest eigenvalue of (the adjacency matrix of) a graph (i.e., to the index of the graph). Three of them have been formulated after some experiments with the programming system AutoGraphiX (AGX), designed for finding extremal graphs with respect to given properties by the use of variable neighborhood search. The conjectures are related to the maximal ...

Variable Neighborhood Search for Extremal Graphs . 15 . On Bags and Bugs 1

Usual graph classes, such as complete graphs, paths, cycles and stars, frequently appear as extremal graphs in graph theory problems. Here we want to turn the reader’s attention to two novel, simply defined, graph classes that appear as extremal graphs in several graph theory problems. We call them bags and bugs. As examples of problems where bags and bugs appear, we show that balanced bugs max...

Variable Neighborhood Search for Extremal Graphs. 17. Further Conjectures and Results about the Index∗

The AutoGraphiX 2 system is used to compare the index of a connected graph G with a number of other graph theoretical invariants, i.e., chromatic number, maximum, minimum and average degree, diameter, radius, average distance, independence and domination numbers. In each case, best possible lower and upper bounds, in terms of the order of G, are sought for sums, differences, ratios and products...
